The Post Office Cuts Cost of Travel Money for Credit Card Holders

Post Office Travel Money is helping UK travellers avoid additional travel money costs by waiving the standard 2.5 per cent cash advance fee when purchasing foreign currency from the Post Office – either online or in branch using the Post Office credit card.

For UK travellers using their credit card to purchase travel money, the removal of the fee could make a noticeable difference to the overall foreign currency received – especially as other credit card providers charge up to three per cent on each transaction.    

While the waiver could reduce the cost of travel money when using a credit card, the Post Office is reminding travellers to avoid other foreign currency pitfalls which could add to holiday costs. For example, changing travel money at airport bureaux de change and using overseas ATMs to withdraw foreign currency can mean that UK travellers end up paying more for their travel money through poorer foreign currency exchange rates, commission or cash withdrawal fees.

Post Office Head of Cards Az Alibhai said: “Our customers love the fact that we don’t charge commission when they use their card overseas, so we are now saving them even more money by removing the cash advance fee when they use their Post Office Credit Card to purchase great travel money from the Post Office.”
