Teletrac’s Partnership with Citroën Accelerates the Company’s Van Sales in 2012
Garden Grove, California (PRWEB) November 30, 2012
With the cost of fuel rocketing in the United Kingdom, Citroën has steered the green path with one of the most fuel efficient fleets in the country. Teletrac’s Smartnav® saves Citroën users thousands of dollars in fuel costs per year, allowing the company to save an excess of six hours of work per vehicle each month. This ensures a future of high fuel economy and low carbon emissions for the company.
Smartnav, a fully integrated navigation system from Teletrac, allows drivers to stay directly connected to a call center at all times—simply with the touch of a button. While destinations can also be easily entered through a color touch screen, Smartnav allows drivers to speak to a live person at any time of the day. Drivers can inquire about a specific location and receive verbal navigation directions to that precise destination within seconds. Every route within the system is dynamic, helping guide drivers through congestion and other traffic issues that may potentially slow the journey down.
“Our partnership with Citroën continues to deliver significant benefits to Citroën customers,” said Pat Gallagher, Director of In-Vehicle Products, Teletrac U.K. “Companies need to manage their vehicles more efficiently in these difficult times with fuel costs at an all-time high. Smartnav delivers significant cost savings due to a unique traffic avoidance capability—keeping fleets moving.”
Scott Michael, Head of Commercial Vehicles at Citroën U.K., said “This is a crucially important value added service for our customers. The Teletrac services on Citroën vans can reduce overall operating costs by up to £2,000 per vehicle, per year, helping to make Citroën vans one of the most cost-effective on the road.”
The system’s navigation capabilities are endless. Equipped with over 5,500 traffic sensors across the U.K. road network, Trafficmaster, part of the Teletrac group, constantly monitors the road. The company provides drivers with up-to-date traffic information that guarantees route accuracy and saved miles. Trafficmaster’s road monitoring program covers over 8,000 miles across the United Kingdom’s main motorways and trunk road network. At peak traffic, over 4.75 million vehicle records are sampled per hour and over 5.75 million events impacting traffic flow are reported annually. Smartnav ensures a smooth trip through its real-time data capabilities, helping to minimise congestion, bottlenecking and other frustrating traffic blockages. The system’s acute navigation capabilities also allow drivers the choice to avoid toll road costs.
Citroën and Smartnav: A Success Story
As one of the first manufactures in the U.K. to offer standard satellite navigation on their van range, Citroën is a model case study for the effectiveness of Smartnav. The Teletrac offering has proven extremely popular and ensures Citroën has a significant advantage in a very competitive market where value-added services are becoming increasingly important to customers. The Smartnav system has allowed Citroën to be one of a small handful of van manufacturers who have seen growth in 2012, despite a market in decline.
Navigation Capabilities
Since 2006, Smartnav has provided significant navigation assistance to Citroën drivers, saving fleets over 100,000 hours of work (14,311 working days) in the past year alone. On average, Citroën drivers downloaded 5.5 routes from Smartnav per month, while the top 30% of drivers download over 21 routes per month, compared to the U.K. average of 1 route per month. Uniquely, Smartnav also provides drivers with an emergency and breakdown call service in the event they require assistance.
A few additional key statistics, collected over the past 12 months:
211 emergency calls were made by Citroën van drivers through Smartnav
The Smartnav PA’s downloaded 37,955 routes personally to Citroën drivers
Smartnav provided approximately 3.8 million routes to Citroën drivers
Increased Fuel Economy
Citroën has fitted over 70,000 vans with the Smartnav system, ensuring those companies that have already bought a future of high fuel economy and low carbon emissions.
In addition to the benefits on offer from the navigation system, Smartnav also offers the peace of mind of stolen vehicle tracking. Over the past 12 months alone, over 97% of Citroën vans stolen were recovered through Teletrac’s stolen vehicle tracking recovery. There is no other van manufacturer in the United Kingdom that currently offers standard vehicle tracking. More than half of stolen Citroën vehicles have been recovered within the hour, thanks to Teletrac’s GPS tracking.
Earlier this year, Citroën further enhanced their package to all its Berlingo, Dispatch and Relay vehicles, with the introduction of a slim color touchscreen with enhanced functionality. This included an easy upgrade to Fleet Director®, the most advanced and interactive fleet tracking and automation software on the market.
