Manchester is Most Expensive UK City for Boiler Services: New Research From Energychoices.co.uk

If you live in Manchester you could shave a massive 67% off your boiler costs just by shopping around, research from Energychoices.co.uk has discovered.
Consumers in Manchester could save 67% on the cost of a boiler service simply by comparing quotes from different plumbers in the area.
According to research from Energychoices.co.uk, the price of a boiler service in Manchester ranged from £72 to £120. The quote for £120 was the highest price quoted in the entire country, even London’s most expensive quote came in less at £114.
The research found the average cost of a boiler service in Manchester was £90 – making the “Capital of the North” the most expensive city in the UK for boiler costs outside of London.
Energychoices.co.uk’s research found that there is huge disparity in the cost of a boiler service throughout the country and getting a fair quote is not as straightforward as it might seem.
Chris Eagle, commercial manager at Energychoices.co.uk, says: “Ring around at least three plumbers in your area to get a fair quote.
“It’s not just in Manchester, but across the whole of the UK that the cost of a boiler service varies dramatically, so it is best to have a clear picture of your options before making a decision.”
The average cost of a boiler service across the UK was found by Energychoices.co.uk to be £70, so this should be the benchmark figure to have in mind when you make your enquiries, Eagle adds.
To ensure you get the most accurate quote when you ring around, Energychoices.co.uk suggests that you should:
Have relevant information such as the age and make of your boiler to hand to tell the plumber and help get as accurate a quote as possible
Find out whether there is an additional call-out fee or whether the plumber will charge for parking costs.
Ask whether the price quoted includes VAT
Eagle says: “You could always avoid the hassle of ringing around a number of plumbers by taking out some boiler insurance from a company like HomeServe.
“Top-end insurance policies from providers like this usually include an annual boiler service in their prices.”

Energychoices.co.uk called five plumbers in a single postcode in each major city of 12 different UK regions, between 12 January and 27 January 2011 to find out how much a boiler service would cost.
The plumbers were then found via a postcode search on Yell.com and the first five selected.
The companies were asked for the cost of a boiler service including VAT, if there was a call out charge and how long the service would take, based on servicing a five-year old Baxi Combi boiler last serviced three years before.
