Forget the stay-cation, we’re all going on an ‘econo-cation’

Forget the stay-cation, we’re all going on an ‘econo-cation’

London, UK (PRWeb UK) August 1, 2009

New research from Post Office Travel Insurance has shown that one in five people are looking to save costs on their holiday by staying with friends and family, which could save nearly £2.5million. However, with recent research showing that around 23 per cent of travellers are considering not taking out travel insurance to save money, Post Office is reminding people that travel insurance is still essential for holidaymakers not paying for accommodation.

Even cheap travel insurance can cover travellers in unforeseen circumstances such as sickness, cancelled or delayed flights, theft or accidents. Annual travel insurance can work out to be much more cost effective per trip even if holidaymakers are seeking to cut other costs.

Despite a reported rise in the number of people holidaying at home, the Post Office Travel Insurance research reveals that only 12 per cent of people are planning to swap their holiday abroad for a staycation in the UK to save money.

The Post Office Travel Insurance survey found that only 12 per cent of UK holidaymakers are swapping time away for a staycation, with 37 per cent looking to holiday for less in other ways. However, Post Office is stressing that even when holidaying on your own, or someone else’s home, travel insurance is an important essential and travel health insurance should be considered as vital as a passport to make sure any holidaymakers are covered for illness or accidents while away.
