It has been reported in the Mirror that the average bill in England has risen from £129 to £388. Even with inflation taken into account, there is still an increase of 50%. The study, undertaken by think tank the New Policy Institute, demonstrated that some 30% of the average water bill (which equates to more than £100 per year) is profit. Trade body, Water UK explains that since the industry was privatised, £108 billion has been invested into improving water and sewerage

A spokesman has claimed that “All this investment has to be paid for, and the scale of the investment has meant bills have risen”.

However, in the current economic climate this is of little comfort to homeowners. Renowned for their London emergency plumbers, the team behind Emergency Plumber have been heavily involved within the plumbing industry for a number of years. A representative has shared their thoughts on the recent news.

“Whilst it’s encouraging to hear that money has been invested in plumbing and sewage systems, sometimes these benefits aren’t too apparent to a number of people and it also means that the average family is faced with bills they cannot always afford.

“However, there are ways people can preserve water and so bring down their water bills. One essential tip is to regularly check for leaking taps and pipes. It is estimated that as much as 3,0000 gallons of water a year can be saved by checking for leaks. If you think you may have a problem, be sure to contact a fully qualified plumber as soon as possible. Taking showers rather than baths and making sure the washing machine is full before you run a cycle can also help conserve water.”

Emergency plumber is an agency run by Martin Smith. With 18 years’ experience in the industry, his aim is to provide fast and efficient emergency plumbing engineers 24/7. The company operates within a wide range of areas in the UK including London, Plymouth, Reading, Coventry, Bolton and Newcastle. Customers can also contact the team for information and advice on gas related problems.
