Center Parcs Continues to Help Keep Families Together at Great Ormond Street Hospital
(PRWEB UK) 7 June 2012
Center Parcs is delighted to announce that after two years in partnership with Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity, the partnership will be continuing for a third year in 2012.
In May 2010, Center Parcs launched its first charity partnership with Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity. Over the last two years Center Parcs and its guests have been helping to raise much-needed funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity’s Beds for Bedz appeal, which aims to keep families together by providing accommodation for parents whilst their children are undergoing treatment at Great Ormond Street Hospital. So far Center Parcs and its guests have raised more than £290,000 for this very worthy cause!
Center Parcs supported Beds for Bedz by inviting guests to opt-in and make a donation when booking their short break holiday; Center Parcs then matched the amount donated. Center Parcs locations around the UK also raised money through activities such as rubber duck races down the rapids, sponsored bike rides, golf events, cupcake sales and a zumbathon. More than £40,000 has been raised by Sherwood Forest, Elveden Forest, Longleat Forest and Whinfell Forest since May 2011.
Great Ormond Street Hospital treats many of the country’s sickest children and the parent accommodation houses up to a thousand mums and dads a week. Center Parcs recognises how vital it is to both child and parent to stay together during what could often be the most stressful times of their lives.
At the age of nine, Raphael Havard was diagnosed with complete kidney failure, caused by rarely-seen illness Goodpasture’s Syndrome. His only hope of recovery rested with a kidney transplant, which his father, Duane donated to save his own son.
Duane said, “An important part of Raphael’s recovery process was ensuring that his mum and I were close by at all times to help him get through the difficult times. Without the parent accommodation this would not have been possible. We found the accommodation clean, modern, well-equipped and the service provided by staff was first class. A big thank you to all involved who provided us with such a warm, stress-free place to stay.”
Center Parcs’ Chief Executive Officer Martin Dalby said “We are absolutely delighted to be able to offer our support to the Beds for Bedz campaign for another year. We have been raising funds for this worthy cause for more than two years now and look forward to raising a lot more in 2012!”
